Lance James is an internationally renowned information security specialist. He has more than sixteen years of experience in programming, network security, digital forensics, malware research, cryptography design, cryptanalysis, counterintelligence and protocol exploitation. He provides advisory services to a wide range of government agencies and Fortune 500 organizations, including top U.S. financial services institutions. James is an active contributor to the evolution of security practices and counterintelligence tactics and strategies, and is credited with the identification of Zeus and other malware.
James was the founding force behind the CryptoLocker Working Group, where he and his team of researchers were acknowledged for their critical role in disrupting CryptoLocker as part of an FBI-led takedown operation. Over the years, he has championed other takedowns of criminal organizations through his strategic alliances with industry, academia and law enforcement.
James also founded one of the first cyber threat intelligence companies, Secure Science Corporation, which pioneered innovative service lines that set standards in the information security industry. This forward-thinking organization housed many of the brightest and best information security practitioners who are leaders in the community today. He has had the honor to work as head of cyber intelligence for Deloitte, where he successfully spearheaded the creation of a world-class cyber threat intelligence capability.
James has contributed to a number of industry books and publications including Phishing Exposed (Syngress, 2005), Emerging Threat Analysis (Syngress, 2006), and Reverse Deception (McGraw Hill Professional, 2012). James is regularly sought out as a keynote speaker world-wide and was featured on an episode of USA Network's hit series, Mr. Robot.
